STRYI Compact Bent Gouge 3mm and 5mm: Precision Tool for Deep Recesses and Tight Corners
The STRYI Compact Bent Gouge is a specialized professional tool designed for scooping and hollowing in deep recesses, where bulky, mass-produced tools feel clumsy and lose leverage. Its ultra-thin 2mm tapered body and subtle bent profile minimize drag and give your hand and handle the clearance to dive deep into tight corners. It is the perfect choice for small bench projects, leaf scrolls, facial contours, and intricate deep-carving details.
Why Professionals Choose the STRYI Compact Bent Gouge:
Compact Design for Maximum Maneuverability The compact 7.3" (185mm) total length and 3.35" (85mm) blade keep your hand close to the cutting edge. This gives you superior lever control and lets the blade twist, turn, and scoop through hardwoods like cherry, walnut, and oak with minimal resistance. The thin-wall geometry helps the tool avoid kick-back and bruising of the wood fibers, leaving a clean finish that needs less sanding.
Premium High-Carbon Steel Deep cuts in tough grain require an edge that stays sharp. Made from high-carbon U8 tool steel (W1-7 equivalent) and hardened to a professional 60-62 HRC (Rockwell), this gouge holds its razor-like bite longer than mass-market tools. It arrives hand-honed to a surgical edge, so you can go straight from the packaging to the workbench.
Ergonomic Octagonal Oak Handle Precision starts with comfort. The compact 3.9" (100mm) handle is crafted from genuine oak with an octagonal shape and treated with natural linseed oil. It acts as a natural extension of your hand, giving you a secure, non-slip grip and full control while scooping in deep recesses.
Choose the Size for Your Project The 0.12" (3mm) width is ideal for fine organic details, tight scoops, and precise maneuvers in restricted spaces. The 0.2" (5mm) width suits hollowing medium-sized elements such as leaf scrolls and facial contours.

I've used a variety of knives, including those mentioned most by seasoned carvers; in my opinion, this ranks up there with those. It came sharp, and it strops up easily. I've enjoyed carving with this knife.

This is a great tool and is very well made. Arrived super sharp and highly polished. It cuts very well and very smoothly. It took about a 3 week to arrive to Alberta, Canada, but for the price it was well worth the wait. Thanks!
