The STRYI Profi #3 Shallow Sweep Straight Gouge is a specialized professional tool designed for clearing broad relief backgrounds and leveling high spots, where deep gouges leave harsh ridges and flat chisels dig in with their corners. It bridges the gap between a flat chisel and a curved gouge: its gentle, sweeping radius glides across the grain, removes peaks, and leaves a smooth, hand-planed finish on broad surfaces. It is the perfect choice for large relief panels, moldings, and sculptures.

Made from U8 high-carbon tool steel with a 5/64" (2mm) metal thickness and hardened to 58-62 HRC (Rockwell), the rigid blade supports a fine cutting edge without flexing or chipping. It keeps its edge through intensive leveling in white oak, walnut, and soft basswood.
Ergonomic Oak Handle The 4.7" (120mm) oak handle is finished with natural linseed oil and reinforced with a copper ferrule. It gives you a warm, non-slip grip that absorbs mallet impacts and hand pressure, for both heavy waste removal and low-fatigue detail finishing.
Choose the Size for Your Project The 0.39" (10mm) width is for tight background leveling, subtle accent shading, and confined relief areas. The 0.79" (20mm) width is the mid-size workhorse for general relief carving, medium panels, and subtle contours on furniture. The 1.18" (30mm) width is for rapidly flattening large relief backgrounds, wide architectural moldings, and final passes on large sculptures.
